Launched tablet production in Haiti.

Haiti Two technology companies have launched competing to sell tablets with the Android system companies.

The enterprises Surtab Handxom SA and SA started production last month and plan to sell devices with a touch screen almost 18 centimeters (7 inches) phone shops across the country and overseas markets.

Surtab executives said they have already sold a lot of tablets at the University of Pittsburgh.

Meanwhile, an executive Handxom said the company has sold 300 units in the last two weeks and will open a showroom in January.

Both companies buy parts in China and assembled in Haiti.

Such businesses are unusual in a country with little recent experience in electronics manufacturing. Most assemblers have been limited to sewing shirts, which are exported to North America.
